Remote Full-time
About Us: The Donovan’s Venom is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on curating universal accessibility to fine arts and music education for all. We are passionately dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, has access to high-quality music education, performance opportunities, and fine art. We aim to inspire, empower, and uplift communities by fostering a love for music and the arts through our commitment to education, inclusivity, diversity, and social impact, which drives us to expand our reach continually and enrich the lives of those we serve. Our nonprofit arts organization is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Music Historian to help us bring the world’s musical heritage to life. In this role, you’ll inspire students and community members to explore the rich cultural roots of music—from the traditional rhythms of Africa and Asia to the soulful sounds of Jazz, Blues, Folk, and Rock. Through your teaching, you’ll help people understand how music connects us across generations and cultures. What you’ll do: • Develop and lead engaging lessons that highlight the history, traditions, and cultural significance of music from around the world. • Introduce students to diverse genres—Jazz, Blues, R&B, Country, Folk, Rock, and beyond—showing how each reflects its social and historical context. • Teach core music theory in accessible ways, helping students understand how musical elements like keys, scales, and rhythm create the foundation of every genre. • Use creative and interactive methods—live demonstrations, multimedia presentations, listening sessions, and hands-on workshops—to make learning fun and immersive. • Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that celebrates cultural diversity, creativity, and collaboration. • Track student engagement and progress, providing feedback that supports growth, curiosity, and confidence. • Collaborate with fellow teaching artists and program leaders to develop new curriculum ideas and community initiatives. What we’re looking for: • Experience teaching music history, ethnomusicology, or related subjects—ideally in community, nonprofit, or arts education settings. • Knowledge of and appreciation for diverse musical genres and global traditions. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a warm, inclusive teaching style. • Ability to inspire learners of all ages and backgrounds through creativity and connection. • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working within a mission-driven team. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music History, Ethnomusicology, or a related field. If you believe music is a bridge that connects people, cultures, and communities—and you’re excited to share that belief through education and storytelling—we’d love to have you.
