• 495217• Full-Time• Communication & Studio ArtsDescription:The History Program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applications for a full-time, nontenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer beginning Fall 2026. This position is not open for fully remote applicants. The position will be open until filled, with priority given to applications received by January 31, 2026. UHCL reserves the right to extend the search or not fill the position. Duties:• Teach four classes per semester (fall and spring) at the undergraduate and possibly also the graduate level.According to the needs of the History Program, courses may be in-person, hybrid, or online. Summer teaching is not required, although opportunities may be available. • Advise students as well as participate in committees and other university service. Qualifications:Required:• Earned doctoral degree in History with a demonstrated focus on 20th-century European cultural history. Those with ABD status may apply, but the PhD must be earned before beginning the position at UHCL. • Experience teaching courses that cover modern European history.• Willingness to teach existing or develop new courses in 20th-century European cultural history according to the needs of the History Program and to regularly teach an upper-level undergraduate survey of modern European history. • Willingness to regularly teach the second half of the required introductory-level U.S. history survey, covering the modern period from the end of the Civil War to the present. • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at UHCL including the use of innovative pedagogical strategies that will meet the needs of our students.Preferred:• Training and experience in teaching film within the context of 20th-century European history are strongly preferred. • Willingness to teach existing or develop new courses in 20th-century U.S. cultural history according to the needs of the History Program. • Potential to contribute History courses to the interdisciplinary Film and Media Studies minor at UHCL. • A demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the college level. • Evidence of excellence in teaching students similar to the student population at UHCL.• Demonstrated potential for mentoring and advising students. • Demonstrated potential to maintain graduate faculty status through the production of research and scholarship.
