Job Summary As a Customer Service Specialist I, you will be responsible for handling and resolving incoming phone calls from patients, insurance carriers, and physician offices. Your primary objectives will include: * Collecting outstanding patient balances and establishing payment arrangements * Updating patient and guarantor accounts with new demographic and insurance coverage information * Providing exceptional customer service, resolving issues, and escalating contentious complaints to supervisors or higher management * Documenting all interactions in our billing system, ensuring accurate and timely updates Key Responsibilities * Handle a high volume of calls in a timely and efficient manner * Attempt to collect full payment from patients or guarantors in a professional and courteous manner * Establish payment arrangements per guidelines and document terms in our billing system * Apply payments collected over the phone to each date of service * Handle customer inquiries, disputes, and complaints, escalating contentious issues to supervisors or higher management * Obtain and update insurance, demographic, and guarantor information, as well as bill third-party payers as necessary * Clearly document all interactions in our system, including follow-up steps after each call Qualifications * High school graduate or GED certificate required * Minimum of 6 months' experience in a physician billing or third-party payer environment * Demonstrated understanding of contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions, and other billing requirements, as well as claim forms, HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, and compliance program regulations * Ability to understand and navigate the payer adjudication process * Experience with patient financial and practice management systems, particularly Epic and/or other electronic billing systems, is preferred * Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred * Previous call center/claims experience is preferred * Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting is preferred Compensation and Benefits * Hourly rate ranges: $22.39 - $28.29 * Salary offers will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training, and education * Comprehensive benefit package, including healthcare and various other benefits, to promote a healthy lifestyle * Paid time off to support work-life balance Why Join blithequark? * Opportunity to grow as part of a Revenue Cycle Career Ladder * Collaborative and dynamic work environment * Flexible remote work arrangement * Competitive compensation and benefits package * Commitment to providing excellent customer service and maintaining a productive environment for all employees * Equal employment opportunity employer, adhering to all requirements of all applicable federal, state, and local civil rights laws If you are a motivated and customer-focused individual with a passion for delivering exceptional experiences, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
