This posting may fill multiple positions. Job Duties and Other InformationJobDuties:As a Ferryboat Deckhand 1, 2 or 3, you'll help create a positive first impression for every person who enters the ferry. In this role, you will:Classifies vehicles and registers class and axles of each vehicle boarding the vessel, collects appropriate toll, process change and issues receiptsCompletes vessel passenger and vehicle count sheets.Performs security and safety checks on vehicles boarding, while underway and departing the vessel. Serves as "Designated Member of the Crew" in accordance with the requirement of the vessels Coast Guard Certificates of Inspection.Operates emergency equipment such as firefighting hoses, fire extinguishers, rescue boats, life rings, floats, in drills actual emergencies.Serves as "lookout" to assist in safe navigation and handles lines in recovery of vessels adrift.Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: Probational or PromotionalWork Schedule: Work hours are based on a 7 days on and 7 days offCareer Progression: As part ofCareer Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Ferryboat Deckhand 1, 2 or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).Please refer to the "Job Specifications" tab located at the top of the LACareers "Current Job Opportunities" page of the Civil Service website for specific information of salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.
