School Guidance Counselor(CANDIDATES MUST HAVE A MASTERS IN SCHOOL COUNSELING FROM AN ACCREDITED PROGRAM AND AN ISSUED OHIO SCHOOL COUNSELING LICENSE)POSITION: School CounselorREPORTS TO: Building PrincipalLead Counselor SpecialistGENERAL FUNCTION: Provide services to students, parents, school staff, and the community. School counselors address the developmental needs of all students through a comprehensive school counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Monitors and evaluates student progress: interprets Standardized test scores, and transcripts, assesses student credits and credit-granting standards. • Monitor and maintain student data, including data entry, database management, and student progression tracking. • Coordinates individual and group counseling with students, parents, and teaching staff in a collaborative manner. • Coordinates develops and implements appropriate counseling services for the specific school population, i.e., student records, parent conferences, resource coordination, consultative services, information dissemination, planning, and evaluation.• Develops a working knowledge of the computer and student scheduling procedures. (As applicable)• Acts as a liaison between the home, school, and community in delivering student services. • Coordinates and administers college, career, and post-secondary information and procedures for the school counseling program. • Coordinates the services provided by outside agency representatives. • Member of Crisis Intervention Team. • Participates actively in ongoing professional development activities. QUALIFICATIONS:Contact with Others:Internal: Teachers, administrators, school social workers, psychologists, nurses, career and college information center coordinators, and others.External: Parents, social agencies, community representatives, college representatives, health professionals, and post-secondary institutions. Certification: School Counselor Certification/Licensure from the State of Ohio. Specification:Knowledge and Ability (Special Skills)Must know current counseling techniques, have effective oral and written communication skills, exhibit positive interpersonal relationship skills; demonstrate sound management, planning, and organizational skills, and serve as a consultant to the variousconstituents involved in the school counseling program.Note: A lead teacher in a position may not be appointed to an administrative position while serving as a lead teacher. A lead teacher may apply for an administrative position if the lead teacher resigns from the lead teacher position prior to submitting an application, however, selection is not guaranteed. A consulting teacher may not be appointed to an administrative position while serving as a consulting teacher and for one full school year after serving as a consulting teacher.
