Regional Underwriting Manager
Position Title: Regional Underwriting Manager Position Summary: The Regional Underwriting Manager oversees a team of specialized underwriting functions to support profitable growth and consistent execution. Focuses efforts on developing and refining processes, guidelines, and tools to support underwriting efficiency and profitability. Leads the selection, development, and performance management of underwriting staff; fosters expertise through training, development, coaching, and mentoring mechanisms. Key Responsibilities: • Ensure consistent, accurate and timely execution of critical processes and controls within the underwriting department, review non-purchase, repurchase and/or indemnifications of loans. • Develop and continually refine processes, guidelines and tools related to underwriting mortgage loans to ensure effective positioning and execution of excellent turn times and minimal quality errors. • Manage cross-functional projects and initiatives to support organizational priorities, utilizing effective project management and techniques to drive timely completion • Manage operational reporting to ensure effective capacity utilization across entire department, leveraging workflow management systems • Ensure compliance with all lending guidelines, regulatory requirements pertaining to the underwriting of loans, documentation standards and internal audit standards • Lead the selection, ongoing development, and performance of management; ensure that underwriting managers foster expertise through referral, coaching, mentoring and other mechanisms Qualifications: • As normally acquired through an advanced degree or equivalent training, 10 or more years of relevant experience, some of which should be in management capacity. • Technical skills: Advanced knowledge of all mortgage product lines, including competitive conditions; underwriting operations; regulatory environment; underwriting producer management; and industry trends. • Professional/General Business skills: Ability to plan, organize and get work done through others the right way. • Ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships by engaging and motivating people; negotiation; influence others; approachability; communicate effectively (listening, verbal, written, presentations, etc.) and project confidence. • Ability to adapt, learn quickly, and respond effectively to varied and intense challenges. • DE/SAR/LAPP highly desired!
