Oncology Data Specialist - Full Time - Fully Remote
About the positionResponsibilities• Accurate prepares cancer registry case abstracts in a timely and complete manner meeting reporting requirements mandated by the American College of Surgeons, State of Georgia and the NGMC Cancer Committee. • Uses ICD-O for all morphology and topography sites as outlined in the third edition of the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology. • Stages all cases using Extent of Disease (EOD), general summary staging, and TNM staging. • Completes all edit checks prior to data submission to ensure accuracy and completeness of case report submissions.• Ensures timely electronic submission of cancer reporting as required by the State of GeorgiaComprehensive Cancer Registry. • Completes all data corrections and omissions as appropriate and requested by the GeorgiaComprehensive Cancer Registry. • Completes case abstracts within six months of diagnosis as required by ACOS. • Facilitates Quality Control review of 10% of all registry cases by Cancer Committee physician members. • Solicits and prepares cancer cases for physician presentation at designated Tumor Boards/Cancer Conferences according to ACOS standards and Continuing Medical Education requirements.• Ensures that appropriate and timely notification is provided to support departments including pathology, imaging, and research and continuing medical education. • Coordinates audio-visual equipment arrangements, including pre-conference set-up and testing, food and room arrangements. • Completes required ACOS case presentation documentation. • Ensures that all appropriate cancer cases presenting to hospital services are evaluated in a timely and accurate manner for inclusion in the cancer registry as prescribed by State of Georgia requirements and ACOS standards.• Ensures that a list of appropriate registry cases is developed monthly for follow up action. • Accurate follow-up contact information is documented on each case in a manner consistent with department policy. • Government reports are routinely checked for case follow-up information. • Develops/prepares special studies and reports using Cancer Registry data to meet Cancer Committee, State of Georgia, ACOS, clinical and administrative requirements. • Submits the data and ensures that all data requests comply with department and hospital confidentiality and study requirements.• Develops data reports with cross checks and edits to ensure accuracy and report completeness. • Confirms appropriate format and receipt of all electronic data submissions. • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives, and adheres to department policies procedures, quality, and safety standards. • Maintains current CTR certification by obtaining at least 20 CME hours in a two-year period. • Trains/updates department and service line staff as appropriate to ensure compliance with regulatory and credentialing standards.Requirements• High School Diploma or GED. • At least two years of medical experience in various capacities with additional experience in clerical work. • General knowledge of anatomy/physiology, case finding, abstracting and follow up procedures, medical terminology and general clerical and computer expertise. • Intermediate word processing speed at 50-60 wpm. • Time management skills. • Good interpersonal skills. Nice-to-haves• Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification. • Associates Degree with emphasis on science or nursing courses.• Experience in cancer registry, medical records, and/or oncology discipline.
