Overview
We're a small marketing agency looking for a reliable WordPress developer to serve as on-call backup support for client website emergencies. This is a low-commitment, reactive role — you'd primarily be called in when our in-house developer is unavailable (vacations, time off, etc.) and something urgent comes up on a client site.
To be clear upfront: this is not a steady-hours role. Most weeks will be quiet. When we do need you, it's usually because something is broken and a client needs it fixed quickly. You're paid only for the hours you actually work — not for being available.
What you'd be doing:
- Diagnosing WordPress issues (is it the site? the server? a plugin conflict?)
- Hands-on fixes in page builders, PHP, and JavaScript/jQuery
- Coordinating with hosting providers and support teams when needed
- Communicating clearly with us (and occasionally directly with clients) about what's wrong and how long a fix will take
Must-haves
- Strong WordPress experience, especially with client-facing production sites
- Elementor proficiency
- PHP and JavaScript/jQuery skills sufficient to debug and patch custom code
- Comfortable accessing hosting environments and troubleshooting server-level issues
- Good written English and clear communication
- Responsive during business hours (we're US East Coast; time zone overlap with the Americas is a big plus)
Nice-to-haves
- Prior experience working with marketing agencies or handling multiple client sites
- SEO-adjacent technical familiarity (one of our clients has crossover needs)
How we'll work together
- We'll give you as much advance notice as possible when our in-house dev is planning to be out
- For true emergencies, we just need you to respond quickly and get the site back up
- We prefer an upfront estimate on tasks when the situation allows, but for "the site is down" moments, we're focused on speed, not billing precision
- You'll get scoped access to the specific client sites and tools you need — nothing more, nothing less
About us
- We're a small, established team with a handful of recurring clients on WordPress. Our team is communicative & easy to work with, and we pay promptly. We're looking for someone we can build a long-term working relationship with — even if that relationship is only a few hours a month.
To apply, please include:
- A brief note about your WordPress emergency-response experience — ideally an example of a site you triaged and fixed under pressure
- Your time zone and typical response window during weekdays
- Your hourly rate
