Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle).
- Install, configure, and maintain non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, DynamoDB).
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies are implemented and maintained.
- Monitor database performance and perform tuning, optimization, and scaling.
- Implement security best practices for data access, encryption, and auditing.
- Design and maintain database schemas, tables, and stored procedures.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to support data-driven applications.
- Perform routine database maintenance including upgrades, patches, and capacity planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Support migration and data replication projects across different environments.
- Document database configurations, processes, and standards.
Technical Skills
- Proven experience with relational databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Proven experience with non-relational databases: MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis, or similar.
- Strong SQL scripting, performance tuning, and indexing knowledge.
- Understanding of data replication, sharding, partitioning, and clustering.
- Experience with backup and recovery strategies in both relational and non-relational environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Google Cloud SQL, MongoDB Atlas).
- Knowledge of database security, encryption, and compliance standards (GDPR, HIPAA, etc).
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to cross-functional teams.
- Comfortable working in Agile or DevOps environments.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic).
- Experience with containerised environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and their data persistence strategies.
- Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) are a plus.
