Job SummaryThe Bioinformatician will be involved in a cutting edge basic and translational cancer research program that utilizes techniques related to genetics, genomics, epigenomics, cancer biology, and cellular biology.The bioinformatician will be involved in projects that utilize mouse and human-based models, cellular culture models, CRISPR-based gene editing, and next-generation sequencing projects that carry a high potential to ultimately advance cancer care. The day-to-day work will involve techniques related to bioinformatics in close collaboration with a group of dedicated colleagues. These techniques include, but are not limited to: the application of computational tools and information technology to gather, analyze and visualize data in from the Franses and Tsanov groups’ research programs; implement or modify existing bioinformatics tools; data analysis of high throughput genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics; customization of existing applications to meet specific scientific project needs; support the development of data models, databases or software applications; produce, present and discuss high quality data analysis reports.Responsibilities Basic application of computational tools and information technology to gather, analyze and visualize data in biology and biomedical research. Data analysis of high throughput genomics, epigenomics, proteomics and genetic data. Assist in creating data algorithms and specialized computer software to identify and classify components of a biological system (i.e. DNA, RNA, and protein sequences). Produce, present and discuss high quality data analysis reports. Minimum QualificationsEducation: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. WorkExperience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: --- Preferred QualificationsEducation:Advanced degree in Bioinformatics.Preferred Competencies Knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics. Knowledge of research techniques or methods. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to write research publications. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work with teams of clinicians, biologists, bioinformaticians and/or biostatisticians to provide hands-on technical support. Ability to perform analysis on large datasets.
